Wiesel MK-20 - airborne fighting vehicle

Behind the name "Wiesel MK-20" you can find a light weaponcarrier, developed as supportvehicle for the german paratroopers. To fullfill this task, the weasel was developed with specail mountings  to be can be transported safely by helicopters and transportplanes. The transporthelicopter CH-53 can carry two of them, the larger C-160 "Transall" airplane can load 4 weasels.

In the 90ties the Bunedswehr was reformed, the paratrooper batallions were downsized or drained. But these weponcarrier were given to the moutain infantry. They were interested in his vehciles before, so it was useful to leave them on duty.

The armor of these small vehicle was constructe to protect the crew against shrapnells or ammunition up to 7.62mm. The motor with 5 cylindres is nearly the smae like in civil cars, it was developed by the Volkswagen company. The 2000cm³ machine with 64kw power allows a good agility and handling in difficult terrains.

The weasel is armed with the same an 20mm DM6 gun like the Marder tank, produced by Reheinmetall W&M,  but he can be armed in a different version with an TOW AT-rockets too.
